SASHA FIERCE THE NEW CHRIS GAINES

Huh? you might ask....well, let's go back in time when Garth Brooks could do no wrong, in certain circles of course. Garth was at the height of his career and wanted to branch out and created an alter ego named Chris Gaines.  He also wanted to make a film using this persona but the public didn't respond well to the album. The sales were lackluster and the film idea never came to be more than just that...an idea. Though this album did garner his first and only pop top 40 hit.
Now comes, Beyonce with her alter ego, Sasha Fierce. Granted in the past she spoke about her alter ego helping her perform live on stage, but from all the press pictures she looks like a Rhianna copycat without Rhianna's short hair. It seems like Beyonce is feeling Rhinna's heat and success. Case in point, Gareth Pugh, an independent designer that Rhianna help put on the map. Now Beyonce has started to wear his designs and it just doesn't seem to fit her as a person or as an alter ego. Perhaps, Beyonce should do what she does best...Beyonce and keep Sasha Fierce for the stage and to herself.

NEW RECESSION=NEW SUPERMODELS

Here's some financial history and I promise it won't be boring. The end results lead to supermodels.
It's 2008 and the recession has begun unfortunately. The stock market has dropped the most in history affecting all industries especially the fashion industry. Let's do a fashion financial flashback.  The beginning and mid 80's everyone was living the high life and high fashion was high profile. Then Black Monday happened in October 1987, the Dow Jones plummeted more than 22%, the most since 1929. Though the stock market recovered, it rippled into the savings and loan industry which caused the recession of the early 90's.  Also, this was happening during the Gulf War. Sounds familiar?
During that recession the birth of the supermodels happened giving us Naomi, Christy and Linda, the legendary Trinity. Along with them came Cindy, Nadja, Elle, Yasmeen,Claudia, Stephanie and others that followed. So now that fashion industry is experiencing cut-backs and lay-offs will they need to look to the models to reignite the dropping sales? With most people done with all the starlets and reality tv and magazine sales floundering its all seems to point back to the rebirth of the "real" supermodel.
Who will be the new Trinity?

BARNEY THE DOG IS ONE TOUGH DOGGIE

I'm sure by now all of you heard about President Bush's dog, Barney and how he bit a reporter who was getting a bit too friendly with him.
Well, here is one of my favorite blogs giving his spin on the incident and I'm telling you I couldn't stop laughing.
He tapped into Barney's psyche and told it like it is from this doggie's alter ego.

RECESSION HITTING HOLIDAY PARTIES

'Tis the season to be penny pinching, laying off employees and canceling holiday parties. Conde Nast canceled its holiday party this year along with their Fashion Rocks and Movie Rocks events.
This comes on the heels of Marc Jacobs canceling his infamous holiday party, the first time since it began 18 years ago. It seems to be in fashion canceling the holiday party because it's not only affecting fashion but most businesses. Hearst as well as News Corp a la FOX canceled their soirees as well. Well you're all welcome to come to my holiday bash!!!

GRACE JONES "WILLIAMS BLOOD"

Grace Jones is back!  There was lots of talk about "Corporate Cannibal" being her first single.
Now, there's the release of this track which is quintessential Grace. The clip is from an entertainment show in Europe, not the best lip-syncing but it's worth a view.
Check out the remix here

DEBBIE HARRY BACKFIRE

When Debbie Harry decided to do her solo album back in the day this was her first release, "Backfire." It was quite reminiscent of "Rapture," but it didn't have the same reception back then. Now, it holds its own.

RECESSION MEANS WHAT TO FASHION???

Some people thought 2008 would be bad and after the first quarter of 2009 the economy would be on the up swing. Well, it looks like bleaker times are ahead and now the forecasts say 2010 will be the beginnings of recovery. Just like previous economic hardships, society always looked for way to escape. Will it be fashion, music, entertainment...what will be the escapism of the new era gone awry?

ROISIN MURPHY NYC MANSION

Roisin  Murphy made her U.S. debut in NY at Mansion this past Friday evening.  Her performance was dazzling and left the audience begging for more of her incredible persona. She performed most of the songs from her "Overpowered" cd with a couple songs from her previous release and a song when she sang with Moloko. With every song, she had a wardrobe change and at times she changed while she was on stage. Her uniqueness and ease on stage made it a memorable show. It is a must see show for all.

GROUP DISCO DANCING MOVES

Check out these disco moves of this group of plaidsters. The song is the best part of the video.

KAYNE WEST

Yes, there's always someone talking smack about Kayne West and his antics.  No matter what you say, Kayne continually pushes himself artistically and doesn't care about what radio or the industry has to say about him. He began as a rapper and yet on his new CD he sings. Why? He said its a blues CD and you can't rap the blues so he decided to go for it sing as best as he could-and he definitely holds his own. Other musical acts should take a note from Kayne and bust out with something ahead of the curve as opposed to releasing different versions of their past radio hits.

FRIENDLY FIRES

Friendly Fires shot a second video to their fun song,"Paris."
