The July issue, titled "A Black Issue," is certainly destined to become a "collector's issue." Franca Sozzani's impact has already affected Milan's men's fashion week. Designers, like Dsquared, are casting more ethnically diverse models and now comes word, that Lanvin is following suit with its upcoming show. Also, other foreign fashion publication's are following her lead. Usually, Korean's July Harper's Bazaar issue is a reprint cover, but this time they shot a new cover with their three top Korean models, Lee Hyun Yi, Han Hye Jin and Kim Daul. Will the "Sozzani Effect" have a rippling effect in fashion or just be a slight rumbling in fashion's history? Time will only tell.
The much talked about issue of Italian Vogue will be hitting the news stands soon. Of course, in good ol' fashion fun, they offer us a new sneak peak with one of Jourdan Dunn's first editorial images.
With all the talk about the upcoming July issue of Italian Vogue using all black models, here comes brothers Dean and Dan of DSQUARED showing some love for the black male models on the catwalk. For their Spring/Summer '09 show in Milan, they cast Tyson Beckford, Anthony Gallo and Will Lemay as well as other ethnically diverse models. Will this be reflected in the shows here at New York Fashion Week? We'll have to wait and see.
Mario Ybarrra, Jr, an artist from Los Angeles had his first New York show last night at Lehmann Maupin LES. It's a multi-media installation titled "The Black Squirrel Society." Upstairs, there was a wooden toss game as well as a video of the "Black Squirrel Society" dancers doing their squirrel dance. Downstairs, while music was being played that was mixed specifically for the show, there were a variety of black squirrel action figures and paintings showing them in their different modes of life. It's a fun, summer show and worth seeing. June 24- August 8

Italian Vogue's editor, Franca Sozzani did what so many in the fashion industry were afraid to do. In July's issue, she uses all black models. It's always been fashion's dirty little secret-using only one, maybe, if you're " the lucky one", "the chosen one", the "one" black girl. Will this be a real shift in the fashion industry or just someone taking the leap and everyone else cowering back to status quo?READ
